Pinchas Zukerman invites us to an exceptional evening beneath the venerable arches of the Saanen Church, joined by his wife, cellist Amanda Forsyth, Adrien La Marca on viola and Simon Crawford Phillips on piano. Chamber music evenings set amid the remarkable murals of the Church of St. Mauritius have long been at the heart of our Festival’s identity. A former student of Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School in New York, the Israeli violinist is entirely in his element here.

Once again, an inspiring encounter between “mentor” and “protégé”, new life is breathed into the music of Brahms, and Schubert’s Quintet for Two Cellos – perhaps one of the most awe-inspiring works in the entire chamber-music repertoire and a true testament from Schubert’s final year. Pinchas Zukerman and Daniel Hope are joined by companions from their musical family: pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips; Ryszard Groblewski, principal violist of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra; and the two cellists Amanda Forsyth (Zukerman’s wife) and Josephine Knight (Professor of the String Academy).
